International Arthouse network is growing:
CICAE welcomes new member networks from Sweden and the Netherlands and opens debate on Future perspectives of arthouse cinemas in a globalized media world

The International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas CICAE welcomed 3 new members at its board meeting in Lisbon: the Swedish National Arthouse Cinema Network “Riksfoereningen Biograferna“, the Dutch Association of Independent Cinemas “Vereniging Nederlands Filmtheater Overleg” (NFO) and the Swedish cinema office “Biografcentralen“.

It gives me a great pleasure to welcome the new members to the CICAE. In times of global market concentration in the media world, the growth of the network is an important sign of cultural film diversity and independent filmmaking. I am firmly convinced that international cooperation, networking and professionalization are keys that local based and community driven arthouse cinemas can assert themselves  in the fast changing media world” says Christian Bräuer, President of the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas.

The board discussed strategies to strengthen arthouse cinemas in a globalized media world with Guest of Honor, Russ Collins, Founding Director of the Art House Convergence from North America and representatives of the newly accepted CICAE members Mathias Holtz (Riksfoereningen Biograferna), Pepijn Kuyper (Vereniging Nederlands Filmtheater Overleg) and Jens Lanestrand (Biografcentralen).

Christian Bräuer commented “Arthouse films are a specific part of the industry, that goes beyond entertainment, encouraging free debate and the reinforcement of quality education. The discussions involving the network leader of Art House Convergence open the path to a transatlantic collaboration and the development of an international holistic arthouse strategy.
