Art Cinema Award for “Dokhtar”, by Reza Mirkarimi, at the Mons International Love Film Festival
The International Confederation of Art Cinemas is proud to announce that the ART CINEMA AWARD at the Mons International Love Film Festival went to DOKHTAR by Reza Mirkarimi.
The strict and traditional Mr Azizi leads an uneventful family life in an oil town of southern Iran.
Then one day, exasperated by her father’s authoritarianism, Setareh announces she is off to Tehran to say farewell to one of her best friends who is leaving Iran for good.
Unfortunately, the engagement celebrations of Setareh’s younger sister are taking place simultaneously.
Despite her father’s objections Setareh takes the plane for Tehran. This act of disobedience sets in motion a series of perturbations that upset the calm tranquility of the paterfamilias.
A real good film in the beautiful and poetic Iranian cinematographic tradition.
It all begins with a very modest episode, something from the everyday life, almost nothing, and becomes a universal story that every audience can understand – without having to go through, like too many films, the Shakespearian or Freundian narrative, with too much explanation or justification of the characters’ actions.
The main actor has already received a lot of price and will be without a doubt one of the most important Iranian artists in the next years.
The jury was composed of:
Josette Friquet, Cinéma Les Cinéastes, France
Horéa Laptes, director, producer and cinematography, France and Romania
Grégory Sauerborn, cinés-théâtres Chaplin Saint Lambert & Denfert et Chapeau melon Distribution, France
