Jury’s decision: “We had two screening days full of beautiful discoveries and discussed at lenght about the selection, which shows a very rich and broad sample of films about childhood. We really enjoyed Rita et le Crocodile because of its graphic quality and the refinement of its writing for a very young audience. Nevertheless, we chose to give the award to a bold, luminous and joyful film, which made us smile: Banana, by Andrea Jublin. We really liked Giovani’s character, an anti-hero obsessed by Brasil and the pursuit of happiness whose enthusiasm is infectious for his family and friends. The aptness and character of the supporting roles reminded us of the Italian social comedy. In the guise of extravagant comedy, the film analyses the contemporary Italian society in opposition to the traditional social order: patriarchy, gratuitous authority, antiquated school system. Like the depressive teacher Ms Colonna says, quoting Oscar Wilde: “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” We would like the film to be shown to the young and adult audience in European and French theaters and to find quickly a distributor.”
