Alma travels from the Netherlands to Bosnia to visit the father she’s never met. Teaming up with her indifferent cousin and his charming best friend, they embark together on an increasingly unpredictable road trip adventure through the country’s scorching heartland.
Ena Sendijarevic confronts the viewers not only with their own clichés of Bosnia but also with the daily life of eastern European life. Young Bosnians are torn between their love to their cultural heritage and the desire to be part of Europe and its progress. This feeling is incorporated in the strong female character Alma. It is a minimalistic road movie – the coming of age clashes with a charismatic strangeness captured in off-centre camera angles and colourful pictures. The film does not aim for a clear statement. It furthermore wants to challenge the audience to find their own individual meaning. And in doing so it becomes a meaningful European tale.
