Applications Open: Arthouse Cinema Training 2026 Returns to Berlin

Applications are now open for the 23rd edition of the Arthouse Cinema Training, taking place in Berlin from August 24–30, 2026.

Recognized as the leading international program dedicated to independent and arthouse cinema, ACT is a week-long residential training designed for cinema professionals worldwide. It combines practical skills development, strategic exchange, and international networking in an intensive format.

Building on the success of the 2025 edition, which welcomed 48 participants from 24 countries, the 2026 program will bring together 50 professionals from across all continents, further strengthening global exchange and the international arthouse community.

Who Should Apply?

The program is designed for:

  • Staff and managers of arthouse cinemas
  • Programmers and exhibitors
  • Professionals planning to open an arthouse cinema or transition an existing venue to an arthouse model
  • Professionals from festivals, distribution companies, and cultural institutions working in the arthouse sector 

Program Overview

Over the course of one intensive week, participants will take part in workshops, lectures, masterclasses, and selected industry visits. The program provides practical insights into cinema operations, programming, audience development, business strategy, sustainability, fundraising, technology, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Arthouse Cinema Training fosters direct exchange with exhibitors, distributors, filmmakers, festival organizers, funding bodies, and international decision-makers. Previous editions have featured tutors and guest speakers from leading international institutions and companies, including the British Film Institute, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Films Boutique, MUBI, York Kino, Comscore, and others.

Practical Information

The training will take place at Data Space in Berlin’s Mitte district. Instruction is primarily in English.

Participation fee:
€1,785 (incl. VAT) / €1,500 (excl. VAT)
The fee includes training sessions, materials, hotel accommodation near the venue (TBC), breakfast, and lunches during the week. Travel costs are not included.

Since 2003, more than 1,100 cinema professionals from 65 countries have participated in ACT. Many alumni have launched initiatives and projects that continue to shape the international arthouse sector.

The organization is committed to accessibility, and scholarship opportunities may be available for applicants who cannot privately cover the participation fee.
