ATAFF to present the Arthouse Cinema Award for the first time in 2027
The CICAE is proud to announce that the Alexandre Trauner Art/Film Festival (ATAFF) will present the prestigious Arthouse Cinema Award of the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas (CICAE) for the first time.
With this new collaboration, ATAFF will join the international network of film festivals hosting the CICAE jury and award ceremony, further strengthening its position within the global arthouse cinema community.
The partnership will bring international arthouse cinema professionals to Szolnok, Hungary, where exhibitors from around the world will form a dedicated CICAE jury to evaluate selected films and choose the recipient of the Arthouse Cinema Award.
CICAE board member and representative Marijana Bosnjak has warmly welcomed the new partnership, highlighting the significance of bringing together international arthouse exhibitors in Szolnok to celebrate exceptional filmmaking. The organisation also expressed its appreciation to ATAFF Festival Director Éva Demeter for her hospitality and longstanding dedication to promoting and supporting arthouse cinema.
For ATAFF, hosting the award represents not only an important recognition of the festival's growing international presence but also an opportunity to foster professional exchange, strengthen industry relationships, and introduce outstanding arthouse productions to wider audiences.
Éva Demeter, Festival Director of ATAFF, commented on the announcement:
“ We are delighted and honoured that ATAFF will become a meeting point for the international arthouse cinema community. The presence of international professionals will not only strengthen the festival’s industry connections but also create new opportunities for outstanding art films to gain visibility and reach audiences who value the unique cinematic experience that arthouse cinema offers. ”
The introduction of the CICAE Arthouse Cinema Award marks an exciting new chapter for the Alexandre Trauner Art/Film Festival. By welcoming an international jury of arthouse exhibitors, ATAFF aims to create new opportunities for artistic dialogue, international collaboration, and the discovery of distinctive cinematic voices.
The first CICAE Arthouse Cinema Award at ATAFF will be presented in Szolnok in 2027.
About the Arthouse Cinema Awards
The Arthouse Cinema Award is the CICAE award given at major international festivals by an international jury of arthouse cinema exhibitors and programmers, which aims at bringing high-quality films to the arthouse cinemas.
Furthermore, the CICAE aims to amplify the voice of the international arthouse cinema movement through the perspective of an international jury of arthouse exhibitors. It also seeks to support emerging directors and bring greater visibility to films from countries whose cinema industries remain underrepresented on the international stage.
Currently 7 festivals are hosting 8 CICAE international juries.
