Boosting film circulation worldwide : Annecy workshop and KIDS Regio Online session
Exhibitor-distributor collaboration across border
In Annecy, 22 arthouse professionals from 17 countries around the world joined CICAE International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas and Europa Distribution Association for the first edition of the international Distributor–Exhibitor think tank. Over the course of the workshop, participants from across the globe exchanged ideas, tackled shared challenges, and explored new models of cooperation between the audiovisual sectors who bring together great films and diverse audiences.
Some of the key take-away from the workshop include the need for strengthened collaboration through personal relationships among key players, the need for transparency regarding resources and strategies, the sharing of the responsibilities and investments, as well as bolder and more creative release strategies, with the need to implement eventisation and to stay open to the use of targeted data and AI.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this dynamic exchange. It’s proof that meaningful dialogue across borders remains vital for our industries and a diverse culture.
“KIDS Regio Online Session: What Young Audiences Want – and Why It Matters to You”
KIDS Regio is inviting you to the “KIDS Regio Online Session: What Young Audiences Want – and Why It Matters to You” that will take place on Wednesday 2 July, at 14:00-16:00 CET on Zoom, organised especially for members of Europa Distribution and CICAE.
The session will be given by Anne Shultka, Project Manager at KIDS Regio, who will guide us through the research of their report 'Building Bridges – European Children's Film in Focus'.
Description of the Session
“ Did you know that children across Europe have more viewing preferences in common than adults realise, and that age is a more important factor than nationality? Or that most children watch films with their families, making them a powerful driver of collective cinema experiences? This session explores insights from 'Building Bridges – European Children's Film in Focus', a unique pan-European report based on expert input from 25 countries and research with 374 children across 12 countries. We'll demonstrate that children's film is not just a niche, but an opportunity for audience growth, cross-border circulation and cultural renewal. First, we will introduce KIDS Regio and its role in strengthening children's cinema in Europe. Then we will walk you through the key findings of our latest report, focusing on the new study but also drawing on earlier insights to provide a broader overview. Together, let's reimagine what children's cinema can be. ”
Participation is subjected to registration before the 1st of July
KIDS Regio
KIDS Regio is the lobbying initiative for high quality, diverse European children's films, bridging the gap between politics, society, the film industry and academia to create a network and explore new synergies. The initiative supports professionals in the children's film industry, strengthening networks and solutions to improve European production and distribution for young audiences, often in cooperation with the European Children's Film Association (ECFA), the membership association of professionals in the field.
