Filmfest Hamburg further expands support for arthouse cinemas and increases prize money for the CICAE Award

The upcoming ARTHOUSE CINEMA AWARD of the International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) at Filmfest Hamburg will be endowed with prize money of 25,000 euros - the CICAE thanks the festival and MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein for their extraordinary commitment to independent cinemas.

CICAE President Dr Christian Bräuer comments on this increase:

“ We would like to thank Malika Rabahallah and MOIN Film Funding for this great decision. The increase of the prize money for the winning film of the CICAE Arthouse Cinema Award is not only a great deepening of the cooperation between Filmfest Hamburg and the German and international arthouse cinemas, but also an important sign for the independent cinema market, which will further strengthen the international distribution of high-quality arthouse films. We are particularly looking forward to the continued collaboration with Filmfest Hamburg and Malika, whose commitment as a great friend and partner of independent cinemas will now also continue on the CICAE board. ”

CICAE AWARDS

The CICAE presents its Arthouse Cinema Awards annually at eight international partner festivals. Each jury consists of international cinema operators and CICAE members and aims to select the best arthouse film of the festival in order to encourage other arthouse cinemas to include these films in their programme.

At last year's Filmfest Hamburg, the jury consisted of Iris Praefke (Moviemiento Berlin, Germany), Majid Movasseghi (SVFJ Zurich, Switzerland) and Dina Pokrajac (Dokukino KIC Zagreb, Croatia). The jury presented the CICAE Award 2024 with prize money of 5,000 euros to the film ‘Universal Language’ from Canada.

Further CICAE Awards are presented at the following festivals: the Berlinale (Forum and Panorama sections, Germany), Cinélatino (Toulouse, France), the Sarajevo Film Festival (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Cinefest Miskolc (Hungary), the Polish Film Festival (Gdynia, Poland), the Loft Film Fest (Tucson, USA) and Seminci (Valladolid, Spain).
